Let's..."Emily-Time!"

These past days, my teachers have moved into "actually" teaching. However, this is a loose term, since this week prior to carnaval, "class" consists of sort of reviewing things from last year. Never ones to waste resources, they "Sacan el jugo" from my presence as much as possible. This phrase means literally, "To take the juice," or, as was described emphatically with many hand-wringing gestures, "To squeeeeeezeee all that is possible from you."

How has this played out? Well, thus far...a mix. One teacher ran out of things to do and, after riling up his students, left the room and literally locked me inside with his students to finish the class. Other teachers simply get me to do all the pronunciation stuff...which is just fine until I realize the students have just been parroting words and thus have no idea what the teachers are having them say, and then comes some improvisation.

And then there's our new favorite verb... "EmilyTime"
Not, "It's Emily Time!" but instead, "Now, we're going to EmilyTime!"

Which of course makes the students happy...but really just mostly means the teachers have nothing to do. So they tell the students to ask me any question they want in Spanish, and I'll answer in English, trying to fill up thirty minutes with something meaningful. But who are we kidding...these are teenage girls.

So, for the thousandth time, in case this prevents even one more person asking: To the question: "Teacher, tienes un novio?" Answer: No, I don't have a boyfriend. "Pero teacher, porque? Tu eres bonita! Answer: Because I'm waiting for the PERFECT man, of course.

There. Now we've EmilyTimed.
